Project

Nieuwe Sluis Terneuzen

Since 2019, DCN Diving has contributed to the Nieuwe Sluis Terneuzen project, one of the world’s largest lock complexes. Our team carried out key underwater tasks, including welding, placing prefabricated elements, underwater concreting, and dredging to support the different phases of construction. The Nieuwe Sluis Terneuzen project, located in the Netherlands, serves as a crucial connection between the North Sea and major European inland waterways, accommodating larger vessels and facilitating smoother maritime traffic.

This new lock, measuring 427 meters in length, 55 meters in width, and 16.44 meters in depth, is designed to enhance trade routes and bolster economic growth in the region. The scale of the Nieuwe Sluis Terneuzen demanded precise underwater work to meet the high standards required for such significant infrastructure. DCN Diving’s role in this project highlights the importance of specialized underwater operations in complex developments and the collaborative efforts of all involved parties to ensure successful completion.

On October 11, 2024, the official opening of the Nieuwe Sluis Terneuzen was marked by a boat parade attended by King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and King Filip of Belgium. This event celebrated years of coordinated efforts by a range of stakeholders, emphasizing the lock’s role in enhancing maritime connectivity and economic activity across the region.

The completion of the Nieuwe Sluis Terneuzen project is a testament to the expertise and dedication of everyone involved, showcasing how collaborative execution and technical proficiency contribute to modern infrastructure projects. The successful realization of this project underscores the benefits it brings to the shipping industry and trade across Europe, ensuring long-term positive impacts on regional development.
